You need an alsa patch. You can try the one against 2.6.28 on http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2008Q4.html. I'm not sure if the code has gone into current Linus tree.

How do i get HDMI Audio to work on Intel 965GM Chipset? I believe i have the correct video driver of xf86-video-intel.
