Debian Sid with NVidia card : Xorg cannot start...

I use Debian Sid with the 2.6.29 kernel and NVidia non-free driver 
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.11-pkg1.run.

I found the install absolutely straightforward and w/o errors.

I use it with a multi-seat setup.

What exactly was the problem?
