not exactly the same  but ... with on older X11 (1.4.0.90) that comes with OpenSuse 11.0.

I started a second session using X :1 -once -query <server>. Switching caused the mouse and
console to lockup. it worked again after killing the Xsession. NTL after reboot the problem
disappeared.
