intel: display randomly going black with driver post-2.1.1

On my Mac Mini using version 2.3.1 of the Intel driver I get a weird
problem where it looks like the display loses sync or goes black or
something for a fraction of a second. The backlight is still on, so it
doesn't look like DPMS. It varies between runs from happening once
every ten or fifteen minutes to once every couple of minutes. For a
while I thought that switching from the 59.9 Hz mode to 60.0 Hz fixed
it, but that was a red herring.

In fact just now with the git version as of
165c0865d849b7d280a3a119fe9ae0ad34637df0 the display just went black and
stayed black. Neither mode switches nor VT switches revived it.

Attached are server log files from runs with 2.1.1 (working), 2.3.1
(problematic) and 165c0865 (problematic).

Happy to test patches and whatnot.
