Ok... patch number II. You can push this one, its much better 
(especially the log messages, much more useful/usable now) -- can 
someone test the XKB options first though? Thanks.

PS: Apparently strncasecmp has already been used in other areas, but 
there wasn't anything in configure.ac for it... go figure.
