hal & xbacklight

Hi,

I'm suffering some issues with hal and backlight setting on a
fujitsu-siemens laptop. There is a /sys/class/backlight interface, but it
doesn't seem to be handled correctly (could it be because the fujitsu-laptop
module is very new?). However, after adding the fujitsu-laptop directory to
the list of available interfaces to the intel driver, xbacklight works just
fine.

Now, my questions are, why doesn't hal use the xbacklight utility? Are there
any plans to add it? Is any such change by any chance trivial (read: can I
go about changing this myself, without coding skills?)
