Radeon driver and 200M

Hello,

I've been trying for many months to switch from fglrx to the opensource
radeon driver.

The latest fglrx (8.10) driver causes all sorts of system hangs on this
system :( I tried the radeon driver (6.7.197) today and it also seems to
hang this machine quite easily. Granted that the driver already warned
me that:

Direct rendering for RN50/RC410/RS485/R600 forced on --
This is NOT officially supported at the hardware level
and may cause instability or lockups

Is there any hope at all for this to work? :)

Here's my setup:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] [1002:5975] (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Subsystem: Dell Unknown device [1028:022a]

6.7.197 radeon driver with xorg 1.3.0 and mesa-7.0.1:
- doesn't crash usually (with DRI enabled), but gives me a blank white
  screen if i start compiz

6.7.197 radeon driver with xorg 1.4.99.2 and mesa-7.1.0:
- DRI not enabled - starts up, but very slow (not using compiz,
  obviously)
- DRI enabled - hangs the system solid everytime I start X

X logs are attached. Anything I can do to help test or fix this?
