intel i915 hardware limit @ 2048x2048 for DRI?

No it's a driver limitation. It's been posted here lot's of time, so
just search the archives for relevant information.

In short it can be done but it's quite complex, so will take a while for
someone with the relevant knowledge and motivation to do.
