Second monitor blank with radeon, works with vesa

I figured I had to run the command with the xserver running, so i did.
Here's the output:

$ sudo radeontool regset DAC_CNTL 0xff604102
OLD: DAC_CNTL (0058)    0xff002102
NEW: DAC_CNTL (0058)    0xff604102

but no joy still
