ati RV280 problem with recent Xorg

I've installed the just released Slackware 12.1 rc1 and my ati 9250 is
nomore working using the radeon driver. The same configuration on the
slackware 12.0 was working perfectly. Now it just set the monitor in
power-save status and the unique action available is to reboot the system.
Slack12.1rc1 uses xorg-server 1.4.0.90 and xf86-video-ati 6.8.0
Has someone had a similar problem?
- I've tested to recompile the ati drivers 6.6.192 drivers used for
slack12.0 but theproblem is stil present.
- I've tested to add in xorg.conf:
Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE,CRT"
Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,NONE"
Option "CRT2Position" "Clone"
Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,CRT"
(my monitor is a CRT Sony Multiscan G200) but none of the 3 options
worked good, still the same problem.
- I've just tested to install debian 4.0_r3 ... it works perfectly:
radeon card and screen resolution (1600x1200) ...
I see debian 4.0_r3 is not using the 1.4.0.90 it's still using a
patched 1.1.1-21etch4 version and for what concerns the ati drivers
they're using the 6.6.3-2, used in old slack12.0 (and using slack12.0 my
pc worked perfectly).
- I've just tested the Fedora-9-Preview-i686-Live.iso too that should use
xorg-server 1.4.99.901 like the "rawhide" version and there's still
that horrible power saving problem.
At this point, considering the tests also using the older ati drivers,
is it possible there're problems with xorg-server versions > 1.3.0 and ati
radeon RV280 cards?
Just 1 option works good: let my card use the generic vesa driver ... but it
has a 1024x768 resolution instead of usual 1600x1200.
I attach my xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, dmesg
