Radeon HD 3870 open source driver support?

Because as I painfully found out, it's not getting distributed
(because the hardware is not attractive enough for windows users to
use it). While I love FLOSS support having someone I can return faulty
hardware no questions asked is worth more to me (since nouveau is
underway)
