How to disable/limit pixmap cache in X

The X Window System mantra has always been: "Mechanism, not policy".

I think that rather than asking the X server to enforce an arbitrary
resource limit policy, we should think about a resource limit mechanism
done via an X extension.

There might already be one available, or maybe the resource extension
could be extended.
