There was once a bug: randr requests stopped working a few hours after
the server startup.  It was fixed in xserver 1.4, which I don't know how
to map to the 7.x numbering scheme.  A few distros (Ubuntu, Fedora) had
patches in their X servers for a while before the 1.4 release.
