It should be noted that the above change means that evdev is useless
w/o hald.  A tremendously broken requirement.

Evdev no longer knows how to find input devices.  And staticly specifying
them in Xorg.conf is, in general, impossible.

I trust there is some way forward w/o forcing the use of hald, with
all of the nasty side-effects that brings along.
