Sounds like you've got the EDID sync polarity swapping bug. That was
fixed in ff4bd3addb48df3eacc4b121cc249a7f38eb981a and released with X
server version 1.4.

You might generate a CVT reduced blanking mode for your monitor (using
the cvt tool shipped with the X server) and stick that in your config
file (as documented by the xorg.conf and intel manual pages) and see if
that works.
