Intel 965Q lockup

I am working on a Dell OptiPlex 745 desktop with a
"82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller". It came
configured with OpenSuSE 10.2, using the VESA framebuffer
device (fbdev) for X.org 7.2RC2, and I am trying to set
up hardware-accelerated graphics.

I kept the agpgart module from the installed 2.6.18.8
kernel, and updated the following components from git
sources:
   - drm.ko and i915.ko kernel DRM modules
   - libdrm-2.3.0
   - i965_dri.so
   - X.org to xserver-1.3.0, with xf86-video-intel driver,
built by pulling git sources using "git_xorg.sh",
     followed by "utils/modular/build.sh" and commenting
out modules that were unnecessary or would not build

The new X server was installed in a separate location, to
preserve the original one. After starting the new server,
things work for a while, but while clicking around in some
programs, the X server froze up with the following message
at the tail of the log file:

----------------------------------

The full log file and xorg.conf can be found at

Also, the Ctrl-Alt-Fn and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace key
combinations don't work anymore, but that may be
unrelated.

So for now, it's back to the framebuffer. Any suggestions
on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Cheers,
