Hi!
  It's nice how all of you are trying to convince me to use this new perfect
technology :-). But beryl/compiz is incredibly slow with my card. I like my
old good KDE with kwin (even enabling the composite manager makes things
so slow that I'm keeping it disabled).
  I would like to hear whether this old resolution switching by keys is 
definitely dead, or whether it's just necessary to put some magic config spell
to enable it again, or anything else about it :-).
