[New to list; be gentle...]

I'm trying to get dual head monitor on a Sony Vaio VGN-TXN17P.

The second monitor is an HP L1940T.

I've been Googling and researching, and have reached a state where the
second monitor (the HP) is a very ugly (unusable) clone of the laptop
panel -- There are vertical "stripes" of lost pixel columns.

By enabling Xinerama and the second screen, with Option "clone"
"false" everywhere, I can also achieve a state where the log claims I
have THREE screens (not) and when I move the mouse (touchpad) "past"
the bottom of the bad clone, the touchpad goes DEAD.

This makes it almost impossible to use the man toolbar/menubar, as you
might imagine. And isn't any better in terms of screen real estate
anyway. :-(

I also have tried variations on this theme, with and without the
Screen "Laptop Screen" RightOf "External Screen"
and with and without the
Option "Clone" "False"

I think I've tried all reasonable combinations...

And I'm sure I've tried several very UN-reasonable combinations :-)
[through ignorance and desperation]

I've hand-edited the file, kept backups, etc, and there could easily
be something totally wonky in there and it's only sheer luck it works
at all for all I know...

It's the i810 driver, only the 915 patch to the kernel, which I think
I successfully applied and/or confirmed it was in there... Though
maybe I just fooled myself somehow on that score.

I have posted the conf file here:
http://phpbootcamp.com/articles/xorg.conf

The log file is here:
http://phpbootcamp.com/articles/Xorg.0.log

Those two are not QUITE in sync -- The log is from the time when I
un-comment the Xinerama and second screen lines.

Can anybody spot anything?

I'm also publishing my results with the laptop as a whole here:
