Error with Gimp - need to compile xlib

Hi, I've been having a problem with Gimp crashing and I've been told it may
be due to the version of xlib.

I downloaded the source for a new version of xlib but its a PS.gz file.
After gunzipping it, what do I do with a .PS file?
