synaptics and evdev

Are synaptics touchpads known to work / not work with the evdev
driver?  I've got the following and so far as I can tell the ABS bit
mask doesn't match up to much in /usr/include/linux/input.h.

It works fine with the mouse driver but using the recommended mouse
