Understood on the need for per-display device LUT control.  Unfortunately,
the XF86VidMode extension only gives control with per-X-screen
granularity, because TwinView/mergedFB drive multiple display devices
without the core X server knowing.  RandR 1.2 exposes this more cleanly.
