newbie type of question: Remote Font Server

I would like to know how to set up a Font Server, and use it as the source
of the fonts of an X Server.
More precisely,  I need confirmation on the syntax of the command line
option to give to the X Server for accessing a
remote Font Server, and I need information on how to set up the Font Server
(as well as direction towards freely available
font servers).  If anyone could just point me to the correct direction, I
would greatly appreciate it.
