Laptop and external monitor/projector setup?

When we added RandR 1.2 support, we removed panning support as the
current setup doesn't make a lot of sense when you have multiple
monitors that create an extended desktop (you want the monitors to stay
put in this case).

There was a proposal to add an explicit 'panning rectangle' to RandR 1.2
for each crtc and have them pan within that. Alternatively, we could
make the window manager or other agent pan the desktop as needed using
the existing RandR 1.2 controls.
