No output from sDVO DVI

I have an sDVO card with two dvi connectors. I want a Xinerama type
desktop across multiple displays but I do not get a video signal from
the sDVO card even though in the Xorg.0.log it seems to detect the
monitor's EDID stuff fine. In the past dealing with video cards with
multiple outs, while booting up I would see the dmesg (and maybe the
BIOS stuff, don't remember) on both connected screens, now I do not,
but maybe sDVO is different.

I have an lcd connected to the VGA out on the motherboard and a CRT
using a dvi-vga adapter on the "primary" dvi out on the sdvo card.

xrandr says:

metacity places windows on the TMDS-1 display so it is there, just not
getting output.

The sDVO has DVI-I connectors.
