I think I know what he means as my colleagues machine does this too
(even when no VGA plugged in!)

It seems to assume the VGA is 1024x768 but the LVDS is 1280x800. Even
with nothing attached the usable area is just the top left square by
default (e.g. at the GDM screen).

A quick xrandr with the relevent dimensions seems to fix it.

This is with quite an early snapshot of 1.3/2.0.0.0 on a colleagues
machine so this info could be out of date but it sounds similar to what
Martin is reporting - please confirm Martin :)
