I would like to know that as well. I use the following two xmodmap hacks on
my ThinkPad T42 to unbreak the numlock key and make the Fn key on my ThinkPad
T42 serve as a Compose key, respectively:

xmodmap -e "keycode 77 = Num_Lock"
xmodmap -e "keycode 227 = Multi_key"

I'd like to know how to do this the right way.
