glxgears is not a benchmark, but if you're having similar issues with
real applications: How much aperture space is available for the DRM
memory manager? I recommend giving it as much as possible with Option
"AperTexSize".

The i915tex driver doesn't care about this, it always uses batchbuffers.

That's probably due to DGA mouse being broken since input-hotplug.
Daniel Stone told me on IRC it'll be fixed, but I don't know when. In
the meantime, setting the environment variable SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0
helps somewhat with SDL apps, but there are intermittent 'wraparound'
effects which make it mostly unusable with anything that really needs
relative motion.
