The timing was such that the announcement arrived
when a lot of people (here in Europe) were already 
heading for the weekend - and most likely for 
Christmas vacation.
Therefore I raised this issue with the election 
subcommittee and made a similar suggestion.

However there were also concerns about extending 
the period while the election was already in progress.
