Xephyr crashing on 8 bit connection attempt

I am not sure to understand what you mean. The Xorg logs you posted show
that the X server is configured with 24 bits depth. So does that mean you
are trying to make Xephyr connect to a 24 bits depth Xorg while configuring
Xephyr itself to use a depth of 8 bits ? What is the command line you are
launching Xephyr with exactly ?
