S3 resume simply doesn't restore the display. Resume works fine, that
is I can get to the virtual consoles with [Ctrl-]Alt-Fn and login.
But the X display initially comes up black, except for the mouse. The
mouse cursor itself is properly displayed and moves around.
Then when I return to X from the vc via Alt-F7, I can see some of the
windows with the background behind. The background at this point is
painted correctly but the windows are only grey boxes, not fully formed.
A couple of corrupted icons appear in the top right corner where the
Gnome Notification icons in the panel would be. But none of the windows
(gnome-terminals) seem to respond, keyboard doesn't seem to work (except
that Ctrl-Alt-Fn still returns to virtual consoles).
I ended up rebooting from vc.
