Not quite I'm afraid. :) The digital part of the DVI connector can be
driven by the internal or an external TMDS.

That may be expected. Does Apple's documentation claim that your model
is capable of driving a 30" cinema display? If so, I think the DVI
connector must use the external dual-link TMDS.
