Are both monitors blank or just the monitor on the VGA port?  Can you
try the alternate modes for your monitor?
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050 --rate 60.0

60.0 as opposed to 59.9 which is what is selected

do other modes work? 1280x1024, 800x600, etc.?
