can not launch any window manager after system crash

Did delete .Xauthority, and run fsck (once again) 
and reinstall libxau6 , libxau6-dev and xbase-clients
(xinit). However the problem still occurs (xinit
still seg faults). Attempting to run any of the 
display managers kdm or gdm fails.
