Question about Neomagic driver

I have an old Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop. The display adapter is a
Neomagic MagicGraph256AV. My question is, does the MagicGraph256AV
support 2D acceleration in 24-bit mode, and does the X.Org neomagic
driver support acceleration in that mode?

In a 16-bit display mode, when I move windows around on the desktop,
it's silky smooth. In 24-bit mode, it's choppy and I can see the
window being drawn. This makes me think there's no 2D acceleration
active in that mode. But Windows 2000 was perfectly smooth in 24-bit
mode, so I'm wondering if there's a hole in X.Org's support for this
device.
