One reason you're not finding more documentation and examples is that
the X Render library is a particularly low-level interface that isn't
really intended to be used by dummies. So that documentation might
never exist.

You might be more interested by using the cairo graphics library which
sits on top of the X Render library and provides a much more
high-level interface, and a bit more documentation, (though it could
always use more).

But I don't know exactly what it is you're trying to do, so I can't
really say if cairo is a good fit or not. But give it a look at least:
