how to configure a radeon firegl 3400

Hi, I just got a dell precision 690 workstation (x86_64 architecture),
and I finally managed to get X to work using a plain vesa driver.  I
would very much like to get an accelerated driver working.

I'm trying out fedora core 6 test 3, which comes with X 7.1.  The
proprietary ATI drivers don't work with 7.1.  I've tried using the
"ati" and "radeon" drivers with no luck:

from /etc/xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "Radeon0"
        Driver      "radeon"
        VendorName  "ATI"
        BoardName   "ATI FireGL v3400"
        BusID       "PCI:07:00:00"
EndSection

But I end up with an error message at the end of the log file:

(EE) No devices detected.

Any suggestions?
