xrandr broken on i915?

Hi,

Since some time the xrandr functionality in debian unstable seems to be
broken. The symptom is that, if you use KDE's "resize & rotate" or
commandline "xrandr -s <resolution>", the X session is killed and you
end up in [kxg]dm. There are no suspicious entries in the kdmlog
afterwards, it just blows up.

Details about the hardware:

lspci:

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)

This is a Dell Latitude D610, and xrandr has worked with that machine and
debian unstable some months ago.
