Actually, that sort of a configuration interface is one that I intend to
try and implement sometime in the next month or so, other stuff
allowing.
I posted a while back a description of what I had in mind, and I've
figured out a lot of the other details, though a few points are still
left.
The main thing though is that it would be a general runtime x
configuration extension. For xfree86 it should be fairly trivial to
import the options for all the input and video drivers, and shouldn't be
too hard for the server options either.
I'd rather see effort put into implementing that then into implementing
a video driver specific kludge if this will do the job well enough.
I'll see about writing an updated proposal sometime this week.
