Hi.

I'm running FC5 on a Dell D610 laptop which has the 915GM chipset.

I've installed and configured:

ftp://ftp.redfish-solutions.com/pub/915resolution-0.5.2-3.src.rpm

(there's a i386 rpm there too).

The values look like:

VBMODES="52 1280 768 32"
VBMODES[1]="54 1400 1050 32"
VBMODES[1]="5a 1680 1050 32"
VBMODES[2]="5c 1920 1200 32"

I've attached my xorg.conf and log file, too.

What I don't understand is, if I use the laptop with a port replicator
and have either a Dell 2005FPW or Dell 1703FP LCD monitor connected to
the VGA port, it always initializes screen 1 (:0.1) to be 1680x1050,
and pressing ctl-alt-minus doesn't cycle through the resolutions:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen1"
        Device     "Videocard1"
        Monitor    "Monitor1"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     24
                Modes    "1680x1050" "1280x1024"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Indeed, looking at the Xorg.0.log I see:

*(WW) (1680x1050,Monitor1) mode clock 146.2MHz exceeds DDC maximum 140MHz
...
(II) I810(1): Monitor1: Using default hsync range of 30.00-80.00 kHz
(II) I810(1): Monitor1: Using default vrefresh range of 56.00-76.00 Hz
(II) I810(1): Not using built-in mode "1920x1200" (width too large for virtual size)
(1680x1050,Monitor1) mode clock 146.2MHz exceeds DDC maximum 140MHz
(--) I810(1): Virtual size is 1680x1050 (pitch 1680)
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1280x1024"
(**) I810(1):  Built-in mode "1400x1050"
(**) I810(1):  Built-in mode "1280x768"
(**) I810(1):  Built-in mode "640x480"
(II) I810(1): Attempting to use 60.02Hz refresh for mode "1280x1024" (858)
(II) I810(1): Attempting to use 70.04Hz refresh for mode "1400x1050" (854)
(II) I810(1): Attempting to use 75.00Hz refresh for mode "1280x768" (852)
(II) I810(1): Attempting to use 75.00Hz refresh for mode "640x480" (850)
(--) I810(1): Display dimensions: (340, 270) mm
(--) I810(1): DPI set to (125, 98)

What the heck is going on? It's using 1280x1024 (which is the correct
resolution for the attached Dell 1703FP monitor) as the hardware resolution,
but it's setting the "virtual size" to 1680x1050... and not allowing me
to change the desktop size to any other resolution.

Shouldn't ctl-alt-minus (or ctl-alt-plus) on the numeric keypad cycle through
the list of resolutions?

For whatever reason, it discarded 1280x1024 as one of those modes, but I
can't figure out why.
