This is one reason I'm doing the event redirection for the magnifier
environment -- a simple magnification can be done (cf diopter) with a
software rendered cursor and no event manipulation changes at all;
simply paint something where the cursor appears in the magnified view
and disable the server-side cursor. To use the hardware cursor, the
mapping between cursor and window must be done by the compositing
system, hence the complicated event redirection adventure.
