Can't Open Log File

I just compiled xorg from source as a non root user. I installed it in
~/apps/xorg/ and now when I try to run startx the server fails saying
that it can't open /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I understand that I can't
write to /var/log since I'm a non-root user, but I can't for the life
of me figure out how to tell Xorg to write to a different logfile or
simply just skip logging.
