Memory Usage by X

Hello all,

Running Xorg-x11 7.1. I've left some compilation running on a konsole
in X during the night. Uptime in X is around 21 hours. My laptop is
dying... Checking top gives me:
9011 root      15   0 1146m 666m 3992 S  9.3 65.9 130:07.35 X

65.9% of mem usage? Probably it can't get more because the rest is
distributed by the other apps. Worse, all mem and swap seem to be in
use:
$ free -m
             total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:          1011        993         18          0          4         57
-/+ buffers/cache:        931         79
Swap:          494        494          0

Why is this? Is there any known leak in 7.1? Is this normal?
