Problems compiling bare Xserver

I am trying to compile Xserver without any extensions (i.e. only
xserver and what it depends on) but it is giving me an error during
configure. The error reads as follows:

configure: error: conditional "XVMC" was never defined.
Usually this means the macro was only invoked conditionally.

I added --disable-xvmc to the configure options, and it gave me the
same error.  I also tried compiling libXvMC, but it kept on giving me
the same error.  I do not want to compile libXvMC. Can anyone help me,
please?
