xv is the interface for displaying images / video with video related color
formats. It happend to use hardware overlay in the past, for Xorg it
still often does, but sometimes the blitter is used. Depends on the
driver.

Read www.opensuse.org/Xgl. I assume you have a GeForce 4Go or
GeForce 5Go. Both are slow at the moment.

Indirect OpenGL rendering (as needed on Xgl) is slow for high vertex or
texture loads.
