ATI rv250 hangs with opengl apps

Hi,
Since xorg > 6.8.0, including CVS as of a few days ago, opengl apps
have been getting my x session stuck - X cursor is still alive, and I
can ssh in from outside, but X session is stuck and either
<some-gl-app> or Xorg is spinning at 99%. Kill -9 <gl-app> brings the
system to its knees, I get a trickle of characters over ssh connection
before I give up and hit reset.
glxgears reliably triggers the problem after 3 or 4 seconds, so
it is easy to reproduce.
I saw some similar bug reports,

If it will help, I'm willing to do the "binary search of CVS
snapshots" to (with luck) narrow down where the bug is (assuming its
only one bug), but if anyone can point to some reasonable before-
and-after snapshot points to test around, that would be nice.
Thanks,
-Jamie
