Cannot get 75hz on TFT monitor

Hello!

This is my first post to this mailing list. I've been searching for 
answers to my question by google and on irc, #xorg at irc.freenode.net, 
without success.

So, here's the case:

I've recently purchased a ViewSonic vx924, a 3ms tft monitor which 
handles 1280x1024 at 75hz.
I installed the monitor, hooked it up to the DVI output of my Nvidia GF4 
ti4400.
At first run, it hit me that the OSD information of the monitor tells me 
that i'm only using 60hz. But, when checking the Xorg.0.log, the 75hz 
res was validated, xvidtune tells me i'm using 75, as does the Display 
Settings of xfce. I let it be, thinking that the OSD must be wrong.

Then I booted into windows, set it to 75hz and the OSD of the monitor 
tells me i'm using 75.

Now you may wonder why I must so promptly use 60? "You can't tell the 
difference on tft anyway."
This is not true; I'm playing an old game called quakeworld. It's quite 
poorly coded, so the physics of the game change along with the fps rate. 
What does this have to do with hz on the monitor? Well, if I play the 
game at 77fps (which is the standard rate for quakeworld), the motion is 
"jerky", probably because of the massive tearing i get. At first, i 
thought that the tearing depended on the monitor, being tft and all.

After a month or so, i tried playing the game in windows, and i was 
stunned. I didn't think that the monitor was capable of so smooth and 
rapid updates! So, this has led me to begin finding the answer to why 
i'm not capable of using 75Hz in Xorg, when i can do it in windows.

Even though the wanted mode is listed as "validated" in xorg.0.log, it 
does not work
I've tried using modeline calculators to specifically force the monitor 
to use 75hz, which only led to a 1024*768 at 60hz mode, and the log saying 
something about 1280x1024 at 75hz is faulty. (some number - some number > 512)

Here follows some information about my setup:
Linux 2.6.13

Nvidia drivers 1.0.7676
Xfce4

The validated modes part is what makes me curious to why it doesn't 
deliver 75hz.
