rc2: "please test" - needs pointers for r300

I compiled 6.9RC2 on my tinker-VM yesterday, apparently works fine. 
Now I'd like to go the whole 9 yards and install RC2 to test the r300 driver
with kernel 2.6.14.

Now - what do I need? On freenode I was told I need DRM from CVS, so I had a
look at the build instructions.

1.Do I need to recompile Mesa as well?
2. After installing DRM, do I need to recompile the kernel?
3. Anything else I forgot?
