Why X protocol/server forbid zero width/height?

XFixes fixes things within the existing protocol - which is very good 
indeed and will help quickly spread it.
Still - are there plans to fix/change/re-implement the protocol itself? 
I am sure this will be no easy task - the current X protocol is a *big* 
success and a new version will have to struggle like IPv6 aggainst IPv4. 
But things are not set in stone, you know ;-)
And such a huge change will have to be planned years ahead (5 or more).
So - will there be a new version of the X protocol in 2010?
