replacement of "left" key

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to post but it is my last
try since I can't get help anywhere else.

Here is the deal: I spilled cola over my laptop and now, two months
later, the left key is not working anymore. I am going to call Acer and
see what they can do but until this is fixed I thought I might try to
combine two working keys to replace the left key.

For example, ctrl+right, ctrl+page_up or something could work as left.
Because it is really annoying not having the left key anymore. :P I
tried this is xmodmap but it did not work:

keysym Right = Right Left
keysym Page_Up = Page_Up Left

It kinda worked in Firefox (but since shift was held down it marked the
text and moved one to the left), but it does not work when I am working
in a shell. Also, using shift for this is not very good, since I need
shift to mark text. ctrl would fit better here. Does anyone know how I
should approach this problem?

Regards.
