I know, fglrx is not XOrg, but I'm lost at tracking the culprit.
After upgrading to 8.10.19 I get display corruption in VMware, and ATI as
usual obliterates me with dumb boilerplate responses, so I thought I here.
fglrx issue or XOrg? Or maybe even kernel? Or VMware (their support seems
unaware of the issue).

Slackware 10.1, XOrg 6.8.1, KDE 3.3.2, VMware Workstation 4.5.2,
fglrx-8.10.19, kernel 2.6.11.
